Apple did it right with the app store

In a recent article on techcrunch http://tcrn.ch/1yc they talk about the success of the app store. I have always been a big fan of the way apple did things and wondered why Facebook hasn't had the same succes with its apps. After much thought I came to the conclusion that the reason why apple has had so much success is they were a legit business before the iphone meaning they had all the infrastructure in place to have a pay for app service. Whereas facebook was so new at the time and still growing it couldn't do a charge for app service. I bring this up because soon facebook will have its own pay for app service which will never come close to equalling apple because those who use Facebook are trained to use the service for free.

That is the key point. Apple trained its users it is ok to pay for apps, Facebook trained its users to believe apps are free. The truth is facebook should of just split their ads on app canvas pages with app owners allowing them to use the area to create better looking more dynamic apps..
